I have always had a love-hate relationship with reading. I was never a reader when I was younger. It always made me tired. I liked reading but I always fell asleep with the book in my hands. In my late teens or early twenty’s, a friend gave me the first book in the trilogy, V.C.Andrews, Flowers in the Attic. I was hooked. It was everything about those books that had me hooked. The appreciation for the writing style came much later. I loved the stories and the complicated relationships woven in the book. Yep! it was dark and horribly sad, but maybe that was a sign.
The closest I cam to anything kinky or sexy was Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret by Judy Blume. Yes, I was one of those girls that passed around the book in the 5th or 6th grade and giggled at her honest (at the time) talk about periods, body hair, and boys. I would occasionally take a peek at my fathers Play Boy magazines. Compared to what I like now, that was pretty tame. Then later came the small little magazine, Forum Magazine. I didn’t realize then that they were a collection of letters to the editor of Penthouse. Learning that now makes it even more scandalous that I would walk into the 7-11 by my house, purchase the magazine, and read the letters in my car, then through the magazine away. I don’t even know if it is still in print. I was excited by what I read and also excited by the risk of getting caught.
Reading books for fun took a back seat when I started college and had to read for classes. Much later, after my separation from my wife, I was staying with a friend and she gave me the book, The Ethical Slut. I had already moved into my intimate relationship with my Sir at the time. She was one of the few that knew what I was into. I loved this book. It was fun and written in a very free easy to read style. And… made me feel okay for my sexual desires, my want for a threesome, my want to fuck more than one person at a time… all of it.
Most recently, I have taken to reading the many wonderful blogs, stories, anthologies, etc. Reading has become fun again! The most recent stories that I have read were Knead: Making Pizza Has Never been So Easy, by Mischa Elliot. If you haven’t read this yet, make a point to do so. I am also reading The Adventures of Sir and Baby Girl, by Kayla Lords. I also spend a lot of time on Sisters In Smut website, reading everything from the amazing stories there and also the informative articles for writers of erotica.
Life is busy with work and life and writing, but making time to read is important too!
